Azmin to hold second HSR meeting with Singapore rep on Friday

KUALA LUMPUR: Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Azmin Ali said a second meeting on the High Speed Rail (HSR) project with Singapore's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan will be held in Putrajaya tomorrow.

"I just got to know that (Khaw) will be coming back to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

"We will have a follow-up meeting tomorrow afternoon in Putrajaya after the Cabinet meeting,” he said.

Azmin said the meeting will be a follow-up to discussions held in the republic last week.

"(The meeting in Singapore) was good and very productive.

“(I met with) minister Khaw and presented the position of the Malaysian Cabinet on the HSR," he said when asked on the progress of the meetings.

Azmin said Khaw had taken note of Malaysia's stand and "he will table the matter to the Cabinet."

Earlier this month, Azmin said that the cost of the HSR project would reach over RM110 billion.

He said this was more than the amount estimated by the previous Barisan Nasional government, which had put the cost at between RM54 billion and RM74 billion.

This was because the previous government had not included the hidden costs, Azmin added.
