ALOR STAR: The three reservoirs - Pedu, Muda and Ahning - are still in a safe condition despite the current hot weather.
Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) Corporate Communication Head Mohd Hafizi Zakaria said the three dams now recorded 1,165 million cubic meters or 77.22 per cent full compared to 66.54 per cent in the same period last year.
“This is more than the minimum required reserves of 679 million cubic meters for irrigation purposes to the rice fields for this two-year season.
“People do not have to worry. The water collected in the reservoirs is sufficient for domestic and industrial use,” he said when contacted today.
Hafizi said farmers in the MADA area will continue to sow their padi in three phases from Sept 26 to Oct 16.
He said it will involve a total area of 100,685 hectares in Kedah and Perlis.
