SST on pneumatic tyres, electric motorcycles reduced to five per cent

PUTRAJAYA: Pneumatic tyres and electric motorcycles are the latest items where the Sales and Service Tax has been reduced to five percent from the 10 per cent previously, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He said the decision was made by the Finance Ministry together with the Customs Department (JKDM) after receiving feedback from 18 briefing-cum-question-and-answer sessions on the SST held nationwide and involving over 15,000 participants.

In a statement today, Lim said the ministry together with JKDM will open SST inquiry counters at the Federal Territory Customs Complex, Kelana Jaya from Tuesday (Oct 2) until Friday (Oct 5) from 9am to 1pm.

“A total of 10 kiosks and 12 counters will be in operation during the hours to enable stakeholders from various trade and industry sectors to provide feedback or even complaints on SST implementation,” he said.

In addition, Lim said that he had also appointed two officers from the Finance Minister’s Office to address any complaints, views and inquiries during the same period.

They are chartered accountant Datuk Ooi Kok Seng and Toh Yen Kee, a former chief finance officer of an international company, who would be at the the inquiry counters to assist the public. --Bernama
