DPM Wan Azizah arrives in Bangkok for maiden official visit to Thailand

BANGKOK: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has arrived here for a two-day official visit to Thailand.

The aircraft carrying the Malaysian deputy prime minister touched down at the Thai Military Air Terminal here at 11.15am local time.

On hand to welcome her at the terminal was Thai Social Development and Human Security Ministry permanent secretary Dr Porametee Vimolsiri.

This is Dr Wan Azizah’s first official visit to Thailand after being appointed to the Cabinet on May 21 following Pakatan Harapan’s victory in the 14th General Election.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is also Women, Family and Community Development minister, will visit Thai Red Cross Children’s Home here where she will be briefed on the organisation's operation and facilities.

She is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha at the Government House and attend a bilateral meeting with her counterpart General Chatchai Sarikulya as well as dinner hosted by Chatchai.

Her itinerary tomorrow includes a roundtable discussion session with 30 Thai businessmen who are members of Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), virtual launch of '7 MLD Reclamation Water Treatment Plant’, a joint venture project between Ranhill Holdings Bhd (Malaysia) and Amata Water Co. Ltd (Thailand) in Amata City Industrial Estate, Rayong, Thailand; and a visit to Or Tor Kor Market run by Thai Marketing Organisation for Farmers, an entity akin to Malaysia's Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama).
