ALOR SETAR: Family members of Mohd Tarmizi Shuib, 42, who was injured in the mass shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand yesterday would be sent to the South Pacific nation soon.
Pokok Sena MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar said he had already discussed the matter with Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir as well as deputy foreign minister Datuk Marzuki Yahaya to assist Mohd Tarmizi's family.
Mahfuz who is also deputy human resources minister said the Pokok Sena parliamentary service centre and state government would sponsor two flight tickets for his family.
He informed that their accommodation there would be taken cared of by Wisma Putra.
"I would also like to ask for members of the public to stop spreading inaccurate news on the condition of Malaysians there... respect the feelings of their family members here.
"Wisma Putra will provide information on the condition of our citizens who were victims of the attack from time to time... we should pray for their safety at a time like this," he said at a press conference, here, today.
Meanwhile it is understood that Mohd Tarmizi's sister Mariani, 49, and his cousin Nordiana Ahmad Fauzi would leave for Christchurch latest by tomorrow.
Mariani said she hoped her brother would recover.
"Our family was shocked when we were told he had been shot in the incident, and that one of his children is still missing.
"We hope he (Tarmizi) will be okay after his wife Marina Zahari told us that he would undergo another operation today," Mariani said.
Mohd Tarmizi was among those at a mosque in Christchurch yesterday for Friday prayers when a gunman opened fire.
The attacks took place at two mosques in Christchurch, leaving 49 people dead.
