KUALA LUMPUR: Local bookstore Buku Fixi today announced they would no longer be selling books written by Helmi Effendy.
"We support freedom of speech but not threats/prayers for people to be killed," Buku Fixi said in a statement posted on their Facebook page today.
This came after Twitter user, Ooi Kok Hin pointed out that Helmi, who is the founder of The Patriots Publication, of which his books are published under, had allegedly openly advocated for "systematic killings of race traitors".
Ooi tagged several book stores including Buku Fixi in the tweet, expressing hope they would reconsider carrying books by The Patriots Publication in their stores.
Earlier, another Twitter user Mikhail Hafiz shared several screenshots of a post said to have been written by Helmi, in which the latter hoped for "night of the broken glass" to become a reality in Malaysia.
"Night of the broken glass" is a reference to Reichskristallnacht which was a violent riot or a pogrom against Jewish people during Nazi occupied Germany in 1938.
During the period between Nov 9 and 10 of that year, the riot was carried out by paramilitary forces and civilians while the German authorities did not intervene.
In sharing the screenshots, Mikhail remarked, "Proof that Neo-Nazi supremacists do exist here and they advocate violence too."
On his Facebook page, Helmi describes himself as the founder of The Patriots, as well as the Editor-In-Chief of The Patriots Publication, among others.
Responding to Buku Fixi's statement, Helmi said he did not care about the book store's decision to no longer sell two of his books, titled Tokoh Agung Melayu and Jangan Selewengkan Sejarah Melayu.
"I assume that when Buku Fixi pulls books off their shelves, this means someone out there, is very, very afraid of me. They are shaking with the influence I have," he remarked on Facebook.
He went on to say that he was proud to have two of his books banned from a book store.
"A symbol of my success in scaring those who are traitors of my religion, race and country. I will not stand down until my last breath," he added.
