KOTA KINABALU: Tourism industry players and the public are urged to promote the Visit Malaysia 2020 logo via their social media accounts.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi said the logo, which was launched by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Monday, was representative of the government’s aim to draw 30 million international tourists with RM100 billion tourism receipts next year.
“The responsibility of developing the the tourism industry lies not just on the ministry.
“We need each other to achieve the target to make Malaysia a premium destination.
“Let us accept the challenge by our prime minister and ensure the success of the programme,” said Mohamaddin.
His speech was read out by Tourism Malaysia chairman Datuk Ahmad Shah Hussein Tambakau at the launch of the three-day Tourism Malaysia Travel Fair at a shopping mall here.
Mohamaddin said the travel fair, which is based on the B2C or “business to consumers” concept, featured 40 industry players offering their products for locals.
“I believe the event will boost the growth of the domestic tourism sector and generate more income for the nation.
“This (domestic) sector will be able to assist the country’s tourism industry in the event of challenges of the global scale which could affect the movement of international tourists to Malaysia,” he said.
