Ex-Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker named Pahang Tokoh Maal Hijrah

KUANTAN: Former Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Datuk Muhammad Abdullah has received the Pahang Tokoh Maal Hijrah 2019 award.

He received the award, which came with RM10,000, a trophy and a certificate, from the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah, at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Broadcasting Complex here.

Muhammad, 77, who was Maran member of parliament from 1986 to 2004, was Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker from 1999 to 2004.

Former SM Agama Maran principal Alias Chik, 78, received the Religious Services Innovation Award and Md Zahar A. Karim, 60, of the Rompin Islamic Religious Office received the new convert award.

They each received RM5,000, a trophy and a certificate.

In IPOH, former Perak syarie chief judge Datuk Muhamad Asri Abdullah was the recipient of the Perak Tokoh Maal Hijrah 2019 award.

He received the award from Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

Asri, 65, had served as the Perak southern region Syariah Court judge, Perak grand kadi, and Syariah Appeal Court judge.

Meanwhile, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Malaysia (Perkim) permanent chairman Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Shaari, 82, was given the Ar-Rizuan Award.

The former headmaster of SK Tasek, Ipoh, had been active in non-governmental organisation activities and had also served as a board member of Bank Rakyat and Koperasi Usaha Bersatu Malaysia Bhd. — Bernama
