PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the Russian President in Malaysia’s efforts to further strengthen ties and cooperation with the country.
The Foreign Ministry said the meeting would take place during the 5th Eastern Economic Forum (2019 EEF) in Vladivostok following Dr Mahathir's working visit to Russia from Sept 4 to 6 at the official invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Dr Mahathir will also deliver a keynote address during the 2019 EEF Plenary Session alongside the Russian President and other leaders who have been invited to the Forum," it said in a statement today.
The EEF is an annual international forum that has gained an increased international attention.
The Forum will discuss prospects for economic cooperation in line with the rapid economic growth in East Asia.
The visit to Russia, the ministry added would provide an opportunity for Malaysia to discuss and exchange views on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
"It is also a great platform to attract new business opportunities, investments, and new partnerships especially in the fields of science and technology, in line with the development of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0)."
The prime minister will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Ignatius Darrel Leiking and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Ministry of International Trade and Industry.
