Family urges for detailed probe on Major Mohd Zahir's death

KOTA KINABALU: Family members of Major Mohd Zahir Armaya is hoping that a detailed investigation will be conducted to ascertain the circumstances leading to his death.

Mohd Zahir, 36, was killed during a shooting demonstration at the launch of the Fifth Division of the Malaysian Infantry and the 13th Malaysian Infantry Brigade at the Lok Kawi Camp near here.

His uncle Mirdat Mohd, 54, said the family accepted the incident as fate and did not blame anyone for it.

“We hope no one will politicise it too.

"But, if it was a mistake, we hope the authority will ensure it won't happen again in future.

"We hope a detailed investigation will be conducted, so that we know what actually happened," he said, when met at the mortuary of Queen Elizabeth Hospital here.

Mohd Zahir's mother Rusunjan, 57, said she was at the wet market when she received the news.

“As a mother, I am sad to lose a son. But I accept this as fate.

"We had kept in touch all this while. He told me he will buy some souvenirs for his wife and children (in the peninsular) when he returns," she added.

Mohd Zahir, the son of veteran actor AR Badul, left behind a wife and three children.

A funeral prayer for Mohd Zahir will be held at the Lok Kawi camp later today. His body is expected to be flown back to Perak at 9pm tonight.
