MB: Rumah Makmur and PR1MA Pahang units not for homestay or renting

KUANTAN: Rumah Makmur and 1Malaysia People’s Housing Programme (PR1MA) Pahang house buyers’ ownership status will be revoked if they are found to have illegally rented out the houses to third parties.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the revocation will also apply to house owners who turn their units into homestays.

He said no major renovation works were allowed at these home premises including using the units for commercial purposes.

He said the Pahang government will not hesitate to take stern action including revoking ownership and seizing the units if the owners do not abide by the regulations.

"We offer the PR1MA Pahang and Rumah Makmur projects for those in the lower income group so that they will own homes. We can consider if they plan some minor upgrading, but not using it as homestay units.

"If we receive such reports, the state government has the authority to claim the house back from the owner and ask them to vacate. The state housing unit will monitor the projects to avoid such incidents from occurring," he told reporters after launching the Kampung Tiram Rumah Makmur project here today.

The developer - Zon Majuria Sdn Bhd - will build 635 units of Rumah Makmur priced at RM80,000 each on a 40ha site, which will be completed within two years.

Wan Rosdy said a new concept was adopted in designing the buildings, which will have pillars that will turn the ground floor into car parks.

"There is space on the ground floor for owners to park their vehicles and to enter the house they must climb the staircase. We hope owners will not misuse the space on the ground floor by using it to build an extra room or rear poultry. If we spot such cases, owners will face action," he said.

Meanwhile, Wan Rosdy described Rumah Makmur as a highly anticipated project due to its affordable price and there was a high demand for the houses.

"For example at this site (Kampung Tiram), we received 1,700 applications, but for those who are not successful, they can apply for units in the next project in Indera Sempurna.

"To date, the state government has approved 21 Rumah Makmur projects offering 7,088 units," he said.

The Pahang government oversees the Rumah Makmur project, which sells each unit at RM80,000 and the PR1MA Pahang project, which sells each unit at RM150,000.

There is another category for PR1MA housing managed by the federal government, which sells houses starting at RM250,000 per unit.
