KUALA LUMPUR: Both the Sungai Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants remained closed today as the odour pollution reading had not reached a safe level to resume operations.
In a statement, Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) said the reading dropped to zero-TON level due to the rain yesterday evening.
“However, based on monitoring until 6am today, the pollution reading remained at one-TON and occassionally went up to two-TON.
“Therefore, we are unable to resume operations of both water treatment plants until the reading reaches zero-TON. This is to prevent users from getting smelly water,” it said.
Meanwhile, Air Selangor has distributed 4,032 bottles of drinking water to the affected areas as of this morning.
He added public taps have also been set up in several locations in the affected areas to provide emergency water relief to consumers.
"Air Selangor has also opened counters in Kuala Lumpur, Gombak and Klang for water purchase by third parties starting today.
"Affected residents are advised to get the latest information on the water disruption via Air Selangor’s mobile phone application, website (www.airselangor.com.my), Facebook page (Air Selangor), or Twitter account (@airselangor).
Over 1.5 million users in four districts in Hulu Langat, Sepang, Kuala Langat and Petaling.
have been experiencing water supply disruption as the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant was shut down.
This follows an odour pollution incident in Sungai Semenyih, which is the main source of the plant’s raw water on Saturday.
The source of contamination was traced to a sewage treatment facility in Bandar Bukit Mahkota.
