Singapore Airlines diverts flights from Iran

KUALA LUMPUR: Singapore Airlines said it was diverting all flight routes from Iranian airspace.

“In view of the latest developments in the region, all SIA flights in and out of Europe are diverted from the Iranian airspace.

“We are monitoring the situation closely and will make the appropriate adjustments to our routes if necessary,” it said in a statement to CNN on Wednesday.

The statement came amid the rising United States-Iran tension following the death of a top Iranian military commander who was killed in an air strike in Baghdad by the US last week.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that U.S. Federal Aviation Administration would ban U.S. carriers from operating in the airspace over Iraq, Iran, the Gulf of Oman and the waters between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Iran had said it launched a missile attack on U.S.-led forces in Iraq in the early hours of Wednesday in retaliation for the U.S. drone strike.
