KUALA LUMPUR: An elderly driver made a gear change mistake while attempting to reverse his Perodua Myvi from a parking space, causing the vehicle to lurch forward and plough into an adjacent eatery at Prima Setapak 3, here, on Saturday.
The 76-year-old driver was slightly injured in the 11am accident.
No one in the eatery was hurt.
It is learnt that the incident occurred when the senior citizen, who was leaving the area, shifted his car’s gear to ‘D’ (drive), and stepped on the gas pedal.
“He had intended to go in reverse and shift the gear to ‘R’ (reverse).
“The mistake caused the car to move forward and ram into the eatery.
“Luckily, only one customer was at the premises at the time,” said Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya.
He added that the case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules for careless driving that leads to an accident.
