KUALA SELANGOR: There is no shortage of the Influenza A vaccine in the country, and reported cases of ‘insufficiency’ may have only occurred at private clinics during the early stage of the ongoing outbreak, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said.
“However, we have overcome (the so-called) shortage (allegedly faced during the early period). This is as mentioned in the official statement issued by the ministry’s director-general (Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah).
“There is no shortage of the vaccine. Pharmaniaga has already assured us that there would not be any disruption in terms of the supply of the vaccine,” Dr Dzulkefly said today.
Dr Dzulkefly, who is the Kuala Selangor Member of Parliament, was met after handing over Chinese New Year necessities and red packets to 170 underprivileged senior citizens at the Tian Hock Temple in Pekan Lama Kuala Selangor, here.
Also present was Bukit Malawati state assemblyman, Juwairiya Zulkifli.
Dr Dzulkefly added that the ministry will continue to monitor the influenza situation nationwide, and added that efforts to arrest the spread of the outbreak are being implemented, especially at entry points into the country.
He said no school has been closed due to influenza so far, and precautionary measures are in place to prevent the outbreak from intensifying.
“We have heightened awareness and we have asked respective health district officers to do so, apart from activating our medical facilities,” added Dr Dzulkefly.
