Hamas leader calls on Dr Mahathir at Putrajaya

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad received a courtesy call from Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and his delegation at his office at Perdana Putra here, on Wednesday.

In several postings on Twitter (@chedetoffical), Dr Mahathir said that during their meeting, Ismail thanked him for bringing fresh ideas related to the Islamic world through the Kuala Lumpur Summit (KL Summit) in December last year.

He said Ismail also expressed appreciation for Malaysia’s continued support of Palestinians.

“According to the Hamas leader, Malaysia has a very special position in the Islamic world,” Dr Mahathir tweeted.

Also discussed were matters related to recent developments concerning Palestinians, as well as the hardships they are facing, he added.

Ismail arrived in Malaysia on Tuesday after visiting Iran, Oman, Turkey and Qatar over the past several weeks. – Bernama
