SUNGAI BULOH: The 'tabligh' (religious) gathering at Seri Petaling Mosque - held from Feb 27 to March 1 - has sparked a new cluster transmission of Covid-19 in the country.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said three people - an individual from Kuantan, Tawau and a Brunei citizen - who participated in the gathering have tested positive for Covid-19.
Some 10,000 people, including more than 5,000 Malaysians have attended the four day gathering.
Dr Adham urged all attendees to come forth to get tested to prevent community transmission of Covid-19.
"We have been informed that Covid-19 has become a pandemic.
'"However, the situation is still under control in Malaysia.
"The public is advised to take precautionary measures to prevent from contracing the virus," he told reporters here today.
He said following this, the Seri Petaling Mosque will be temporarily closed for cleaning and sanitation processes.
Meanwhile, he added that travellers from Iran, Italy and South Korean will be barred from entering Malaysia following the Covid-19 outbreak in those respective countries.
On the ministry's preparedness in handling the pandemic, he said Malaysia has sufficient resources, medical personnels and number of beds to attend to Covid-19 cases should there be further increase.
To date, Malaysia has reported 149 Covid-19 positive cases.
