KUALA LUMPUR: Operation hours of the public transport services will be limited during the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO), said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said public transport were among the hard to control areas when it came to the practice of social distancing.
“According to the report that we received, total number of public transport users will significantly drop when the (essential services) workers are already at their respective workplace.
“Hence, during the meeting we had, we decided to limit the operation hours of the public transport services, which is from 6am to 10am where people need it to go to work and 5pm to 10pm after working hours,” he said today.
The defence minister was speaking at a press conference which was telecast live on RTM after a special meeting with ministers on the implementation of the MCO.
Ismail however said that the new rule did not include taxi and e-hailing services.
“But the drivers need to make sure they wear mask and practice social distancing during the ride,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) is currently discussing with the industry players on the ceiling price for face masks.
“The new ceiling price will soon be announced by the KPDNHEP, and the price will definitely be lower than RM2 per piece that was announced previously,” he said.
