KUALA LUMPUR: The government has added several categories of business to its list of ‘essential services’ which may operate during the nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO), which was implemented on March 18.
The services, which come under point 9 of the original list, are:
9a. Transportation by land, water or air
9b. Port, dock and airport services and undertakings, including stevedoring, lighterage, cargo handling, and pilotage, and storing or bulking of commodities
9c. Production, refining, storage, supply and distribution of fuel and lubricants
9d. Hotels and accommodations
9e. Any service or work determined by a minister as important or critical to public health or safety
The amended list of essential services, signed by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, was listed in the Federal Gazette – Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) (No. 2) (Amendment) Regulations 2020, published on April 2.
On Tuesday, the gazette issued a refined list of 10 essential services from the initial 22.
The 10 comprise food, water, energy, communications and internet, security and defence, solid waste and public cleansing management and sewerage, healthcare and medical – including dietary supplements, banking and finance, e-commerce, and logistics.
This came following the government’s move to tighten the MCO to combat the spread of Covid-19.
