KUALA LUMPUR: All agricultural and fisheries product supply chains are allowed to operate as usual during the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this applied to all levels of the supply chain including logistics and operations, such as shops selling fertilisers and product packaging factories.
“All in, the agricultural and fisheries supply chain is allowed to work as usual. That’s why we had opened more Controlled Fresh Markets (Pusat Jualan Barang Segar Terkawal) so that the public can buy their fresh produce.
“We know and understand that the public needs fresh produce so there is no hindrance whatsoever to the delivery of agricultural products or their operations,” he said at a press conference today.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the Special Ministerial Committee on MCO had agreed to station the police and armed forces personnel at the Selayang Wholesale Market (Pasar Borong Selayang).
“People are still crowding the market and not practicing social distancing. So we decided for police and the armed forces to be stationed there to ensure adherence to the standard operating procedures.”
On the issue of the supply of necessities at Enhanced MCO (EMCO) areas, Ismail Sabri said residents in the affected areas could request for items they need at the each area’s monitoring centre.
“If you need meat, for example, you can request for it from the centre and the officer on duty will help with it,” he added.
The EMCO is currently in force at Simpang Renggam in Johor, Hulu Langat in Selangor, and Menara CityOne in Kuala Lumpur.
