KUALA LUMPUR: The registration for online application via Gerak Malaysia to those who wish to return to the city from their hometowns is open until May 1.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said those without the application would have to register at the nearest police stations.
"I would like to clarify a statement issued by the police. Actually, those who wish to leave their hometown to return to the cities have until May 1 to register via app Gerak Malaysia.
"After May 1, we will gather the information and the National Security Council, police and Health Ministry will convene and discuss on the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
"Even though the matter has yet to be discussed in NSC meeting to be chaired by the prime minister, police have already suggested several SOPs. The outcome of the meeting will then be brought to a special Cabinet meeting for approval. Only then can we decide on the date (of the movement)," the defence minister told a Press conference today.
He said as it involved a large group of people, many issues had to be taken into consideration.
"This is not a straightforward case, unlike the university students allowed to return to their hometown. Issues like those with no transport, or whether we can allow five people in one vehicle, for instance, would be discussed. It is against the MCO rule (to have more than one person in a vehicle). Can we allow this?
"Also, can we accommodate parents who had left their children in kampung, as we don't allow inter-state travel. I have received an inquiry by someone who is separated from her husband who went back to their hometown prior to the MCO (Movement Control Order). Their children have been crying, wanting to return to Kuala Lumpur," he said.
Meanwhile, he said the Higher Education Ministry was mulling to allow university students staying in red zone areas, mainly out-of-campus like UNiKL students in Kampung Baru.
"Kampung Baru is a high-risk area, while some of them wished to return to their hometowns located in the green zone area. Maybe they would need to be tested for Covid-19 before being allowed to leave. This is among the things being considered by the ministry," he said
