KUALA LUMPUR: There are 172 new Covid-19 cases reported as at noon today, bringing the tally to 7,417 nationwide.
The jump is almost triple from the number of new cases recorded yesterday which was 60, effectively ending the country's 22-day streak of being in the two digits category.
The number of active cases is 1,323.
In a press conference on Covid-19 updates today, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said another 34 more patients have recovered and discharged from hospitals.
This brings the total number of patients who have recovered from the virus to 5,979 or 80.6 per cent of the total number of positive cases.
"Of the total new cases reported today, five were imported and were contracted abroad. Of the locally-transmitted cases, 159 are foreigners whereby 112 were identified at three immigration depots (Sepang, Semenyih and Bukit Jalil)," Dr Noor Hisham informed.
He said Malaysians need not worry over the spike in cases as most of these new cases took place at Immigration depots which were isolated from the public.
8 Covid-19 patients are currently in the intensive care unit (ICU), with four needing breathing assistance.
No fatalities from the virus was reported to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) as at noon today, keeping the death toll at 115.
