Community empowerment is final criteria in Covid-19 exit plan

KUALA LUMPUR: Community empowerment campaign will be the final criteria in the exit plan currently being formulated by the government, prior to lifting the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the campaign was important to encourage community leaders to empower the society and take responsibility in protecting their respective communities from getting infected by the Covid-19 virus.

"I believed that such campaign will be able to educate the community to be responsible by adhering to the Standard Operating Procedures that will subsequently lessen the burden of our frontliners," said Muhyiddin in a statement that was shared on his official Facebook account today.

The community empowerment campaign, he said, was among the main agendas discussed during his meeting that was conducted via video conferencing with Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah earlier today.

The prime minister is currently undergoing self-quarantine at home since May 22 after an officer who attended a post-Cabinet meeting he chaired two days earlier tested positive for Covid-19.

Muhyiddin said among other matters discussed during the meeting with Ismail Sabri and Dr Noor Hisham, which went on for almost 40 minutes, included deportation of illegal immigrants who tested negative for Covid-19.

"I have instructed for the (deportation) process to be conducted immediately to reduce the risk Covid-19 outbreak among other illegal immigrants detained at immigration detention depots," he said.

The prime minister also said he was satisfied with the outcome of the efforts rolled out by the government to contain the outbreak in the country.

"I believe that if the community can cooperate and take responsibilities for the well-being of their respective communities, the country will finally succeed in putting an end to the Covid-19 outbreak," he said.

On a separate matter, Muhyiddin dismissed claims that he was in Singapore to undergo medical treatment.

"I am observing quarantine at my house in Bukit Damansara here.

"Since the country is at war against Covid-19, I will ensure that discussions relating to the formulation of strategies to contain the outbreak can proceed as usual," he said.
