Covid-19: Three clusters remain active in Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA: Three active Covid-19 clusters remain in the country – Pudu, Bukit Jalil Immigration detention centre and Chow Kit Market.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said three new cases were detected at the Pudu cluster, bringing the cumulative Covid-19 cases there to 73, followed by Bukit Jalil immigration depot and the Chow Kit cluster, both recorded one case each, while there were no new cases reported at the other 28 clusters.

To date, 283 cumulative Covid-19 cases were detected at the Bukit Jalil immigration depot, and 90 cases in the Pasar Chow Kit cluster.

"For the Bukit Jalil detention depot, a total of 1,545 samples were screened as of today, comprising 1,421 detainees, one child of a detainee and 123 staff. A total of 283 positive cases were recorded with no pending test results.

"For the Semenyih depot, there were no new cases reported, with 66 cumulative cases recorded so far, including one staff, with four samples still awaiting results. A total of 1,767 samples were screened at the Semenyih depot and 1,635 were detainees and 132 staff.

"Meanwhile, a total of 1,450 samples were screened at the Sepang immigration detention centre, comprising 1,348 who are detainees and 102 staff, with all the 36 positive cases involving detainees. There are no pending test results."

He said a total of 31,204 foreigners have been screened, with 1,858 positive cases detected and 27,807 samples having turned out negative.

"A total of 750 patients (40 per cent) are still being treated, with none being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as of now, and four deaths recorded so far."

Meanwhile, no new cases were reported from the Seri Petaling cluster as of today.

He said 41,293 samples from the Seri Petaling cluster have been screened and tested, of which 3,369 tested positive, involving five generations.

There were 263 active cases and 33 deaths reported.

Meanwhile, 20,731 students and staff at 378 tahfiz schools and madrasah nationwide have been identified for screening, with 15,116 samples (or 72.9 per cent) having been tested, and 685 (or 4.5 per cent) returning positive.

He said 96 of the positive cases have shown Covid-19 symptoms, while 589 others (86 per cent) were asymptomatic.

He also said that 43,025 Malaysians who had returned from abroad had been placed under the mandatory 14-day quarantine period since April 3.

"Of the total, 34,445 had completed the 14-day quarantine, with 462 positive cases being detected and no new imported cases reported so far."

He said Covid-19 tests were also carried out at 390 wet markets nationwide, involving 41,435 traders and workers; and 32,075 samples (77.4 per cent) screened and tested for Covid-19. A total of 271 (0.8 per cent) positive cases were reported.

He said 10,942 samples taken from 295 care centres for the elderly have been tested so far, with 23 positive cases detected.

He said Malaysia's Covid-19 laboratory maximum capacity until May 27 stands at 29,789 samples, with 26,005 samples (87 per cent) tested at 43 laboratories yesterday.

A total of 50 Covid-19 positive cases, among the 3,708 samples taken through the antigen rapid test kits were detected.

He said 13 Covid-19 positive cases were detected among the 14,996 pre-operation patients nationwide.
