KUALA LUMPUR: A new Covid-19 cluster has been detected in Labu Lanjut in Sepang with five new positive cases, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
He said the index case was a patient with Acute Respiratory Infection who was being treated at the Serdang Hospital.
"The patient was tested positive on June 5. Active Case Detection that was carried out found that 4 of the patients' family members - 2 children and 2 grandchildren - have been tested positive with Covid-19 infection.
"Three of the family members are staying in the same house while one is staying elsewhere.
"Investigation and close contact tracing are still ongoing whereby a total of 29 individuals have been identified and screened," he said.
Dr Noor Hisham also said that 25 close contacts of the Index patient were found to be negative and cause of the infection in the new cluster is still under investigation.
"However, the Covid-19 infection on this new cluster is suspected to be linked to visiting activity.
"The ministry urges the public to always take precautionary measures when visiting especially when it involves the elderly and children," he added.
