KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commision (EC) office in Sarawak has been temporarily closed after one of its staff tested positive for Covid-19.
The temporary closure started on Monday (July 20) and will end on Aug 2 (Sunday), said EC secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak today.
"In line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of Covid-19 as set by the Health Ministry, all EC Sarawak staff who had close contact with the affected staff will be ordered to undergo the Covid-19 test.
"It is also mandatory for them to go on self quarantine for 14-days," he said in a statement.
Ikmalrudin added that the office will be closed during the quarantine period as no staff will be on duty.
He said disinfection and sanitisation will be conducted within the premises and its surrounding areas as a preventive step to deter the Covid-19 transmission.
