KUALA LUMPUR: Taps are flowing again at 51.6 per cent of homes in seven districts in the Klang Valley affected by Thursday's unscheduled water supply disruption.
Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) is expecting the water supply to be fully restored in stages.
National Water Services Commission (Span), he said, has also instructed Air Selangor to inform its consumers about the restoration schedule once the distribution system has been stabilised.
"I have directed Span to contact all water operators, such as Syarikat Air Negeri Sembilan Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad, Syarikat Air Darul Aman and Syarikat Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd, to also distribute water to affected consumers.
"To date, Air Selangor has deployed 114 water tankers, including nine from other water operators; provided 22 public water taps; placed 70 static tanks at 19 community centres; and distributed 5-litre bottles of water to affected consumers," he said in a statement today.
The industrial effluent pollution in Sungai Gong in Rawang had caused the Sungai Selangor Water Treatment Plant Phase 1, 2 and 3 and the Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plant to halt operations since Thursday, causing nearly 1.2 million account holders in 1,292 areas to experience dry taps.
Both facilities have resumed operations, but full restoration of water supply will only be completed by Wednesday, Sept 9.
