Zulkifli: Covid-19 diagnosis opportunity for self-reflection, betterment

KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad al-Bakri, who tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday, considers his recovery period as an opportunity for self-reflection and self-betterment.

He also apologised again for any shortcomings which led to his contracting the coronavirus.

"This current ordeal gives me an opportunity for self-reflection and for self-betterment.

"From the bottom of my heart, I once again apologise for what has happened," he said via a Facebook post today.

In the same post, Zulkifli also uploaded a report card on the performance of agencies under his portfolio for the month of August.

He said each sen spent for the governance of Islamic affairs at the federal level is a responsibility entrusted by the people on him.

"In the meantime, I am still responsible (during my convalescence) for providing updates on Islamic affairs developments at the federal level, as I have been doing every month since March.

"Therefore, I have attached the Report Card for Aug 2020 for the agencies under the purview of the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs)," he said.

Zulkifli said his schedule last month was mostly oriented around Parliament, but the agencies under his ministry have continued working on their respective programmes with utmost commitment.

He also said the report card does not include all the activities and programmes of the agencies under his ministry, and therefore, advised the public to directly visit social media platforms of the specific agencies for further information.

"I hope this monthly report card will provide a general picture of the initiatives we undertake every month, with a particular focus on the Covid-19 pandemic at the moment.

"Hopefully, Allah SWT will continue to bless and protect Malaysia. Insya-Allah, the Report Card for Sept 2020 will be published soon," he said.

The report card for August highlights several programmes, such as the formation of a task force to handle current religious issues on social media; Pelan Pengimarahan Masjid-Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan; Bantuan Musaadah Covid-19, a food bank, and assistance to the underprivileged.
