LABUAN: A woman wearing a pink Covid-19 quarantine wristband, who was seen grocery shopping at the Bandar Labuan area here, yesterday, has been arrested by police.
The 32-year-old woman was nabbed at about 2.30pm for flouting her home quarantine order, issued by the Labuan Health Department.
Labuan district police chief, Superintendent Muhamad Farid Ahmad, said the arrest was made after the public informed police about the pink wristband the lady was wearing.
He said the woman was later found to have entered Labuan through the Labuan International Ferry Terminal on Sept 27, before receiving her quarantine order.
"The lady was instructed to continue observing home quarantine, beginning yesterday until Oct 29, while waiting for the results of her second swab test.
"However, the suspect violated the order by visiting the grocery store with her husband, on their way from hospital," he said in a statement today.
Muhamad Farid said the case is being investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code for a negligent act likely to spread infection of a disease dangerous to life.
He said the case is also being investigated under Section 22(b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 for violating an order issued by authorities.
"Offences under Section 269 of the Penal Code provide for imprisonment of up to six months or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
"Offences under Section 22(b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 provide for imprisonment of up to two years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction for first-time offenders.
"Second-time offences and beyond will be punished with imprisonment of up to five years, or a fine, or both," he said.
Muhammad Farid said repeat offenders can also be fined up to RM200 for each day the offence is committed.
