KUALA LUMPUR: Employers have been urged to allow their staff to work from home although there are no travel restrictions barring them from going to the office under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in announcing this today, noted that three new clusters in the Klang Valley had reportedly emerged from workplaces.
"Even though the government does not restrict the movement of employees, we ask that employers allow their staff to work from home in view of cases in offices and other economic sectors.
"I will bring this matter up in the daily special National Security Council (NSC) meeting chaired by the Prime Minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin).
"This is to decide our next course of action on whether employees who are still office-based should continue doing so or otherwise.
"However, before any decision is made by the meeting, I hope employers will allow their staff to work from home. This is to ensure the safety of all in the company," he told a press conference held live from his residence today.
Ismail Sabri, who is also Senior Defence Minister, is currently serving out the last day of a 14-day home quarantine period. He will return to holding his daily press conference in Putrajaya tomorrow.
He was placed under quarantine after attending the same Oct 5 meeting with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad at the Prime Minister's Office.
Zulkifli had tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from Sabah prior to the state election last month.
