PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,240 new Covid-19 cases today – the highest daily tally of infections since the pandemic began in March.
The previous record of 1,228 cases was set just two days ago.
Only two of the new cases are imports, while the rest are local transmissions.
The country's cumulative tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 27,805.
Meanwhile, seven new fatalities - all in Sabah - were recorded, raising the death toll to 236. Among the deceased was a 27-year-old man.
According to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Sabah recorded the highest daily number of cases today at 927, followed by the Klang Valley with 194.
Dr Noor Hisham added that 9,774 patients are still receiving treatment in hospital, while 661 were declared fully recovered and discharged today.
Three more clusters were detected in Sabah, Negri Sembilan and Perak today.
