IPOH: The state government will leave it to the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the landslide incident which struck The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat in Tambun here today, killing two guests.
Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu in a statement today said that it was paramount to carry out full investigation in order to prevent the same incident recurring.
"District officer Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik and Menteri Besar Office's representatives were at the scene to assist the department and agencies involved.
"It is learnt that there is still soil movement and Perak Mineral and Geoscience Department (JMG) is closely monitoring the situation and the department has proposed measures to stabilise the slope structure," he said.
On behalf of the state government, the Tambun member of parliament also expressed his condolences to the victims' families.
"I would like to thank the authorities, who were involved in the search and rescue operation (SAR), for locating and retrieving the bodies," he said.
Yesterday's continuous downpour was believed to have triggered the landslide which struck the Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat in Tambun here today, killing two guests.
After almost 10 hours of search operations, the authorities managed to retrieve the body of Ooi Chee Wei, 39, at 10.05am and Lee Tze Juin, 32, about 13 minutes later.
The remains were found in the jacuzzi room of the victims' villa, which was struck by the landslide at 1am.
