No need to scan MySejahtera app if you're just refuelling at pump [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: A minister today clarified that those refuelling their vehicles at petrol stations without entering the convenience store and without coming into contact with anyone else, are not required to check-in via the MySejahtera mobile application.

Speaking at his daily press conference on non-health matters pertaining to the Covid-19 pandemic today, Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said there is no need to scan the MySejahtera QR code for customers who pay for their fuel using credit or debit cards at the fuel pumps itself.

This also applies to those who pay using application-based payment platforms and those who pay through the counter window without going inside.

However, this would only apply to those who do not enter the convenience store located within the petrol station and that they do not come into contact with anyone else there.

Confusion arose previously when a news report highlighted the police saying customers who refuel without entering the convenience store were also required to scan the MySejahtera QR code or risk being fined.

However, the government has now fine-tuned and outlined standard operating procedures (SOP) when visiting petrol stations.

The SOP however varies, as stated above, and also takes into account the mode of payment involved.

Individuals entering the premises to pay for petrol, to buy items, or to withdraw money from the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) must register either through the MySejahtera application or manually.

The same applies when visiting the toilet or surau at the premises.

"This is because there is contact between people in these situations.

"If there is an incident, it is easier for us to do contact tracing," he said.

Meanwhile, those who go to the petrol station to inflate their tyres with air do not have to register.

The situation is different if visitors come in for a car wash or to repair their vehicles at the workshop within the petrol station.

However, car wash situations are broken down further, in which registration is only applicable to those who opt for the manual car wash.

Automatic car wash customers are not required to register.

"Detailed SOPs on visiting petrol station will be available on the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) website if confusion still arises," he added.
