EMCO enforced on Top Glove's workers' hostel [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: A two-week Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) will be imposed on Top Glove Corp Bhd's workers' hostel in Klang, Selangor, starting tomorrow.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the EMCO is being enforced after 215 Covid-19 cases were detected at the hostel.

"The EMCO will involve the men's hostel, women's hostel, Jalan Abadi 1A/KU8, Jalan Abadi 1A, and Jalan Abadi 1A/KU8; and affect 13,190 workers and nearly 1,200 residents in the area.

"The EMCO is to enable the Health Ministry to conduct targeted screening of residents there.

"Top Glove is urged to screen all factory workers and other hostels that provide workers for their factory," he said in a press conference today.

Ismail Sabri said the EMCO has also been imposed on Kampung Numbak and Telipok, in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, from today until Nov 29.

"The state government announced this yesterday," he added.

Meanwhile, the EMCO imposed on the Kota Kinabalu Detention Centre, Kepayan Prison and Taman Mat Salleh Prison Quarters in Kampung Matambai, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, has ended.

Ismail Sabri said as of Nov 14, cases in the area are under control, with only 25 active infections at the detention centre, and one active case at the Kepayan Prison.

"The Health Ministry conducted 1,824 screenings at the detention centre and recorded 425 positive cases, and tested 3,970 people at the Kepayan Prison with 1,857 positive cases.

"On advice and risk assessment by the Health Ministry, the meeting today agreed to end the EMCO at the Kota Kinabalu Detention Centre, Kepayan Prison and Taman Mat Salleh Prison Quarters in Kampung Matambai today, Nov 16, as scheduled.

"However, all residents in the areas are still subject to Conditional MCO standard operating procedures (SOPs), which are currently being imposed in Sabah."

He also announced that the EMCO enforced at the Health Ministry Training Institute at Johor Baru ended today.

The Health Ministry conducted 1,291 screenings and recorded 33 positive cases there. The last positive case, he said, was reported on Nov 10.

"The Health Ministry said all samples from the screening have been obtained as of Nov 14, and the number of cases is under control," he said.
