CMCO: 577 arrested for flouting SOP yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR: Police yesterday arrested 577 people for flouting the standard operating procedures (SOP) under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in a statement today, said from the total number of arrests, 522 people were issued compounds, while 55 were remanded for various offences.

"A total of 116 people were arrested for participating in activities at entertainment outlets. Other offences were not wearing face masks (113); failure to practice physical distancing (215); failure to record visitors' details (71); traveling inter-state and inter-district without permission (53); and others (9)," he said.

Ismail Sabri said the compliance operation task force, led by the police, also conducted 63,722 inspections nationwide, yesterday.

"The compliance task force will continue to enhance monitoring and inspection at public places to ensure compliance of the SOP," he said.

He added that the task force, involving 2,737 compliance teams comprising 13,387 officers and personnel, had conducted 38,910 checks on business premises for SOP compliance.

"A total of 3,426 supermarkets, 4,949 restaurants, 1,866 hawkers and stalls, 1,336 factories, 3,435 banks and 552 government offices were inspected.

"Also inspected were 941 land transport terminals, 231 water terminals and 83 airport terminals," he said.

Ismal Sabri said 11,995 sanitisation operations were carried out at 137 zones.

"All 14,155 premises were sanitised, including 2,864 business premises, 1,659 housing areas including PPR flats, and 2,771 public places.

On Op Benteng, he said the authorities detained 49 illegal immigrants and two smugglers at 278 roadblocks set up by the police, the Armed Forces, Rela personnel and the Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem).

"Four vehicles were also seized during the operation yesterday," he said.

Op Benteng is a joint effort between the police, the Armed Forces, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), and Aksem to safeguard the country's borders and eliminate cross-border crimes, while preventing the spread of Covid-19.

Ismail Sabri said from July 27 to Nov 27, a total of 76,807 individuals returned to Malaysia from various countries abroad.

"A total of 79 hotels and 18 public training institutes in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Johor, Sarawak, Kelantan, Perak, Kedah, Perlis, Terengganu, Sabah and Labuan were designated for the returnees to undergo the 14-day quarantine process.

"At the moment, 10,923 returnees are still being quarantined, while 405 have been admitted to hospital," he added.
