Selangor's Teratai cluster enters 2nd generation, outside EMCO area [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The Teratai cluster in Selangor has spawned a second generation of infections, with 152 individuals within the community infected.

Health director-general Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah said 164 local staff under the Teratai cluster did not live at the workers' dormitories.

"As of today, it is estimated that 152 Covid-19 new cases have been reported at the community level and outside of the area, currently placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), covering Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

"There are 164 workers who are locals and they are staying at their respective homes, so when there is an infection, their family members are at risk.

"We have found a second-generation of infection involving family members of the workers," he said at the Covid-19 daily press briefing today.

Dr Noor Hisham said the Covid-19 screening at the community level using rapid test kit antigen (RTK-Ag) had been conducted on residents in Meru, Klang who were part of the Teratai cluster.

He hoped the move would be able to curb the spread of infection among the community under the cluster.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said the Health Ministry was considering to allow its staff from Selangor and Negri Sembilan, temporarily placed in Sabah following the spike of cases there, to return.

He said the ministry had received applications from Selangor and Negri Sembilan following the recent surge of Covid-19 cases in the two states.

"In Selangor, we have mobilised our staff comprising 59 medical officers and 57 public health officers to assist in screening of people at high-risk areas, while 64 public health personnel have been moved to other states," he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said non-governmental agencies such as the Imam Response and Relief Team (IMARET), Mercy Malaysia and the Malaysian Red Crescent Society have been collaborating with the ministry in Selangor.
