KUALA LUMPUR: The three-month extension period for the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan repayments due to the Covid-19 pandemic is only for affected parties.
PTPTN chief executive officer Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid clarified a statement that the affected parties were those who lost their jobs or their income was affected.
He said the borrowers could apply for the extension on its official website between Jan 5 and March 31.
"The deferment of payment is effective on the same month the application is approved and also the remaining two more months, between January and May this year.
"No supporting documents are needed to apply. The borrowers will be notified of their successful application within three working days of their application," he said today.
He also reminded those who were not affected by the pandemic may continue to repay their PTPTN loans.
PTPTN borrowers can contact the corporation's careline at 03-2193 3000, which operates from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm, for further enquiries.
Earlier this month, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad announced the PTPTN loan moratorium would be extended for another three months. The ministry hoped the move will ease the burden of borrowers who have been facing difficulties repaying their loans.
Last year, the government announced a deferment of loan repayment for all PTPTN borrowers due to the Covid-19 pandemic, effective from March 19 to Dec 31, 2020.
