KUALA LUMPUR: Employers and employees from sectors or services that are not listed as essential services throughout the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) have been instructed to work-from-home starting Wednesday.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said all employers must comply with the directive in order to reduce movement especially in high density areas.
The government, he said, identified five sectors categorised as essential services allowed to operate throughout the implementation of the MCO, which has been reinstated in five states and three federal territories starting Wednesday.
They are Penang, Sabah, Melaka, Johor, Selangor, KL, Putrajaya and Labuan.
The sectors are manufacturing, construction, services, trading and distribution as well as plantation and commodities industry.
"These sectors are allowed to operate after taking into consideration their role to ensure supplies of basic necessities such as food, drinks, households items as well as personal care products, supply of personal protective equipment (PPE), medical equipment and medicines to healthcare workers, international trade activities as well as ensuring supply chain is not disrupted apart from supporting critical infrastructures and emergency cases," he said.
Muhyiddin also said only 30 per cent of the staff in the management level are allowed to be at the office while the number of staff needed from the support services level will be determined by respective employers.
"I want to remind all that the number of workers must take into consideration and comply strictly with the standard operating procedures (SOP) on physical distancing.
"Action will be taken against employer who fail to comply with the SOP subsequently leading to Covid-19 transmission at their respective work places," he said.
Muhyiddin added the International Trade and Industrial Ministry (MITI) will outline the list of services listed as essential economic sector.
"MITI and the Works Ministry will also outline the list of construction works that are allowed to operate during this period," he said.
