Nazri Aziz warded after testing positive for Covid-19

KOTA BARU: Padang Rengas member of parliment Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz has been warded at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZII) here after he was tested positive for Covid-19.

The 66-year-old has been placed under quarantine at the hospital since yesterday.

A source also said Nazri was undergoing treatment at the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU).

"He is in a stable condition," the source said.

When contacted by the New Straits Times, Nazri confirmed he was admitted on Monday after a persistent cough.

"My doctors say I am doing okay and I am positive as I feeling much better from yesterday," he said, adding that his contacts were being traced.

Nazri was a close contact of a Blogger Zaharin Mohd Yasin who attended Nazri's press conference on Jan 12. Zaharin later announced that he had been tested positive for Covid-19.

Nazri had called for the press conference last week to announce his withdrawal of support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman was also at the event.

Nazri joins the ranks of a growing list of politicians tested positive in recent weeks, including Deputy Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin (Jan 13); Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin (Jan 12); Women, Family and Community Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun (Jan 10); Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (Jan 9); and Sabah Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan (Jan 3).
