KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia registered the highest number of Covid-19 cases at 5,728 as of noon today.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said Selangor continues to log the most number of cases at 3,285.
This is followed by Johor at 792 cases, Kuala Lumpur (480), Sabah (263), Sarawak (191), Negri Sembilan (158), Perak (112), Penang (101), Kedah (99), Terengganu (85), Pahang (51), Melaka (42), Labuan (29), Kelantan (28), and Putrajaya (12).
Perlis logged no new cases.
"We are now at the plateau (stage) or peak.
"With the implementation of the Movement Control Order, enforcement of Act 342 (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988), the Workers' Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446), and emergency ordinance, we are confident that we can flatten the Covid-19 curve.
"A whole of government and whole of society approach are needed to make this happen," he told the New Straits Times.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in his daily Covid-19 update said this brings the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 209,661, including 47,388 active cases.
"Of the 5,728 new cases reported, only five were imported cases (involving two Malaysians and three foreigners), while the remaining 5,723 cases were local cases," he said.
He further said Malaysia logged 3,805 new recoveries, raising the total number of recoveries to 161,527 cases (77.04 per cent).
"There are 319 patients in the ICU with 120 Covid-19 patients intubated."
The ministry, he added, recorded 13 new deaths (12 Malaysians and a foreigner), which brings the total number of deaths to 747 (0.36 per cent).
