KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Youth today called on the government to consider amending the new standard operating procedures (SOP) for the coming Chinese New Year celebration.
Its vice-chief, Chua Hock Kuan, urged the government to allow Chinese families who reside within a 10km radius to celebrate the festive occasion, as long as they follow the SOPs.
"This suggestion is to give the Chinese community the chance to celebrate the New Year with reasonable SOPs implemented like before.
"This would give plenty of meaning and value to the Chinese community and I believe they will greatly appreciate it and abide by the SOPs," he said in a statement.
He said the existing SOPs to allow religious activities to be conducted at houses of worship with a limited number of attendees should be continued as usual for any festive occasion.
