BERA: The grand launch of a recreational club in Triang near here yesterday was marred by a RM50,000 fine over two violations of the Recovery Movement Control Order's (RMCO) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Bera district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mansor Samsudin said the organiser had failed to adhere to the physical distancing SOP.
They also committed a violation for organising a lion dance show, which is not allowed during the RMCO.
Mansor said police had earlier received a call about a gathering at the premises.
"Upon the police team's arrival at the premises at 12.30pm, they spotted a huge tent had been set up there. A lion dance troupe performed while there was no physical distancing at the tables set up under the canopy.
"The organiser was issued a RM50,000 compound over the failure to ensure physical distancing at the tables. A lion dance performance is not allowed during the RMCO," he said in a statement today.
He said the recreational club chairman, in his late 40s, was handed the compound notice and reminded to adhere to the SOP.
Under the new Emergency (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases) (Amendment) Ordinance 2021, individuals who breach the MCO regulations can be fined a sum of not exceeding RM10,000 while companies who violated MCO regulations will be liable to a maximum fine of up to RM50,000.
