KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will not use the AstraZeneca vaccine in the mainstream vaccination plan.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the vaccine would only be used under a separate registration channel for volunteers.
Those receiving the vaccination would also be channeled to separate centres.
"Those with (elderly) parents do not have to worry, as those receiving their appointments now will not be given the vaccine but will get the Pfizer and Sinnovac doses instead." he said.
However, he added that AstaZeneca would be offered in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak on a special first come first serve basis.
It would also be offered to anyone above 18 but health screening would be done for those who volunteer to take the vaccines.
Khairy said this after a Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) meeting here today.
