Archer Haziq's death due to complications from clogged arteries

KUALA LUMPUR: There is no evidence to link the death of national archer Haziq Kamaruddin's to the Covid-19 vaccine at the moment, the Health Ministry said.

In a statement today, the ministry's Forensic Medicine Service head Datuk Dr Zahari Noor said a post-mortem revealed that Haziq died of complications due to coronary artery atherosclerosis, or the hardening and narrowing of arteries due to blockage.

Dr Zahari said Haziq also tested negative for Covid-19.

"National archer Haziq Kamaruddin's death is being investigated under a Sudden Death Report by the Kajang district police headquarters, a post-mortem order was issued to determine his cause of death.

"The post-mortem process was completed after a Covid-19 swab test was taken, and the result was negative. The post-mortem result revealed that he died of complications of clogged arteries caused by coronary artery atherosclerosis.

"However, further investigations are being done and we are awaiting several analysis results. At the moment, there is no evidence to suggest that his death is directly related to the Covid-19 vaccination," he said.

Haziq, 27, was pronounced dead at the Kajang Hospital at 9.37am yesterday.

According to a family member, Haziq collapsed after performing Subuh prayers at his house in Kajang.

He was laid to rest at the Taman Koperasi Serkam Darat Muslim cemetery in Merlimau, Melaka, early today.

He was also among the national athletes who had completed both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
