IPOH: The state government today launched the Palestine Humanitarian Fund to help ease the plight of the Palestinians.
Perak Menteri Besar Perak Datuk Saarani Mohamad said for a start, the state executive council (exco) meeting today had agreed to channel RM100,000 to the fund, followed by contributions from government-linked companies (GLC).
Saarani said that this initiative would also be extended to government departments and agencies, as well as the private and individual sectors in Perak.
"This fund is a sign of solidarity of the people in the state, regardless of race and religion in supporting the world's protest against the atrocities committed against the Palestinians," he said.
He told reporters via a Zoom meeting after chairing an exco meeting at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here today.
"To ensure the aid reaches the target group, the state government requested the help of Parit member of parliament, Datuk Nizar Zakaria, who is actively involved in a humanitarian mission to Palestine.
"He will communicate directly with Palestine authorities and use the assistance of Wisma Putra to channel the funds," he said.
To date, more than 200 Palestinians have been reported killed while hundreds more were injured as a result of the Zionist regime's escalation of violence.
