Agriculture sector to continue operating

KUALA LUMPUR: The Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAFI) will ensure farmers, fishermen and breeders are allowed to operate during the Movement Control Order 3.0 as essential services.

Its minister Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee said MAFI will make sure the country has a sustainable food supply without any shortages or constraints affecting the agriculture sector.

He said MAFI welcomed the government's decision to tighten Movement Control Order 3.0 restrictions while affirming that there were enough supplies for all.

"MAFI has taken reasonable steps to ensure this, including obtaining permission from the National Security Council to allow the agricultural sector to continue operating during MCO 3.0," he said.

He said the government would ensure food supplies, especially for essential items namely rice, meat, fish, vegetables and fruits will be enough and sufficient for all.

"The government will continue to ensure the welfare of the frontline of the agro-feed sector was preserved and given priority," he said after a meeting with the fisherman community at Kampung Terusan Sugut today.

Also present at the meeting was the minister's Sabah Rural Development Exco and Negeri Labuk assemblyman Samad Jambri.

Kiandee who is also the Beluran MP said the ministry's Crisis Management Center (CMC) had been reactivated in light of the latest MCO announced by the government.

Kiandee also reminded farmers, fishermen, breeders and entrepreneurs to always comply with SOPs in delivering their services and to take care of their safety at all times.
