MELAKA: Umno Tangga Batu division has stitched a Palestine flag, dubbed the longest flag in the country to express members' concern over the Palestinians' plight.
The making of the 1.1 kilometre long flag became a reality with the help of Kampung Klebang residents.
The division chief Senator Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamed said they took up the idea to stitch the flag after being suggested by numerous parties including non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Following discussion on the works needed to be done, eight women voluntarily came forward to stitch the country's flag.
"It took them about eight days to finish it and Alhamdulillah it is now being spread out on the Limbongan land reclamation area here," he said today.
Fifteen residents led by Mohamad Ali had brought the flag to the site from the village located about five kilometres away while maintaining the Movement Control Order (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOP).
He also said they would get certification from the Malaysia Books Of Records (MBR) soon for submission as the longest flag in the country.
"The flag can be installed at any schools or government department. I hope the effort will express our support of the Palestinians' struggles to defend their land from the Zionist," he added.
