Labuan to get 30,000 vaccine doses, following surge in Covid-19 cases

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will deliver about 30,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses to Labuan in the coming week, after a recent surge in cases there.

Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP) coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) was looking into vaccination delivery capacity in Labuan, and ensure the shipment is done as soon as possible.

"(The outbreak) in Labuan is quite critical. A discussion was held this morning, and we will be delivering more than 30,000 doses in a week or two to Labuan," he added.

Labuan has currently the highest positivity rate in the country, at 13.72 per cent, with a population of about 103,000.

As of June 12, the island of Labuan also reported the highest infectivity rate in Malaysia, with an Rt value of 1.12, higher than the national average of 0.90.

A total of 31,230 people in Labuan had been administered their first and second doses. Over 45,000 people in the federal territory have registered for the vaccine.
