KOTA BARU: The government is assisting those in the agriculture sector who are facing issues, forcing farmers to dump vegetables and fruits.
Deputy Agriculture and Food Industry Minister II Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi said among those who have been getting government aid in the past were farmers and fishermen.
"This shows that the government via the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAFI) is ready to help those in need. In the Cabinet's post meeting, MAFI has tabled the issues faced by farmers in Lojing Highlands, which resulted in the dumping of vegetables and fruits and in them incurring losses.
"The dumping issue cropped up when the fresh produce could not be delivered to suppliers due to the implementation of Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in certain areas. This issue is on our radar and expected to be resolved soon.
Che Abdullah, who is the Tumpat member of Parliament, told this to reporters after presenting food donation to villagers at Kampung Kutan here today.
Also present was Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob, who is also the Pasir Pekan MP.
On the call by farmers in Lojing Highlands for a new collection centre, Ahmad said the state government had taken note of it.
"The state government will have to study the matter before any decision can be made on setting up a new centre for the agriculture produce from Lojing Highlands, Gua Musang," he said, adding that the matter would be brought before the National Security Council soon as well.
