JOHOR BARU: "I'm unsure if my action of waving a white flag is right or wrong...I only do it for the sake of my children and pregnant wife because we have run out of food supply."
This was shared by self-employed Zulkiflie Samsudin, 39, from Taman Pulai Indah, Kangkar Pulai, who had lost half his income during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Zulkiflie works as a welder to care for his six-months pregnant wife Nur Aqeela Atika Mohd Dali, 29, daughter Putri Nur Zahirah, 9, who has vision problem, and 12-month-old son Muhammad Putra Riqzi Zilhelmi.
He said he could neither buy milk nor disposable diapers for his young son and he could not pay for his house rent or his car loan.
"I feel down for not being able to carry out my duties as the head of the family due to financial constraints, and things have become worse this year.
"I raised the white flag yesterday afternoon and Alhamdulillah aid started pouring in beyond my expectation. We have enough supply now to last us for few months.
"There are also netizens who are willing to pay the one-month house rental arrears worth RM800 as well as the three-month car loan arrears worth about RM1,200.
Zulkiflie thanked all of those who had helped his family and decided to take down the white flag.
"For now, we have enough supply of basic neccessities as well as finance. Only Allah can repay the kindness of those who have helped us," he said when met.
It was reported that Malaysians had flooded social media with the #benderaputih movement, calling those in need of food or essentials to raise a white flag outside their homes.
By doing so, it indicates the household needs assistance, allowing neighbours to render necessary aid to them.
